Welcome to Franksbridge School

Franksbridge C.P. is a lively, happy, small rural school which enjoys strong support from parents and the local community.  The school was first opened on 29th July 1878.  Since 1965 the original building has been redesigned and now accommodates the older children, aged 7 to 11 years.  Two new classrooms, a kitchen, cloakrooms and toilets have also been added.  One of these classrooms accommodates the younger children, aged 4 to 7 years.  The school stands in attractive grounds comprising a large tarmacademed play area, games field, community play area, school garden, pavilion and natural area containing a pond.

Franksbridge is a small hamlet situated 6 miles from the market town of Builth Wells and 7 miles from the county town of Llandrindod Wells.

The school was inspected by Estyn in June, 2013, and it was deemed  to be “good”  in all areas.

The report states that:

"The school provides a very caring environment where pupils are valued as individuals."

“The quality of teaching is good; most pupils make good progress from their individual starting point and strong partnerships with parents and the local community significantly enrich pupils’ learning experiences.”

“Staff work together as a close, effective and committed team focused on delivering high standards across the whole of the school’s work”. Teachers “collaborate closely with teaching assistants who play a valuable role in supporting pupils’ learning.   It goes on to say that “Partnership activities with parents and the community have a significant impact on pupils’ standards and wellbeing. The excellent play area, which they created …….. positively supports pupils’ fitness and well-being.”

“The headteacher provides good leadership and a clear strategic direction for the school,” and that the “governors are well informed about strengths and areas for development and increasingly offer a good degree of challenge to the school.”

“Provision for the development of pupils’ understanding of sustainability and global citizenship is a strong feature of the school.”
